NEWSPAPER | Robert Pattinson Featured in the METRO UK Newspaper Leaving CANNES in Andrei Harmsworth Guilty Pleasures Column

ROBERT PATTINSON became the main man in Cannes as it emerged he is about to sign on the dotted line and become Batman.

The future Caped Crusader was at the glam film fest to plug new horror flick The Lighthouse — but he and Dame Helen Mirren then took the fizz out of A-listers’ champagne quaffing.

The pair went to the Hollywood Foreign Press Association bash at Nikki Beach and promptly silenced guests into guilt about living the high life.

‘OK, ladies and gentlemen — especially you guys talking in the back,’ barked Dame Helen. ‘Here you are, you’ve got free food, free drink. You’re safe. You’re warm. The rain is not raining on your heads. All I ask you is to give a moment’s thought to the people who don’t have that. Just a moment of not speaking. Think about people who are so much worse off than you are and feel very, very, very grateful that you are where you are.’

RPatz, 33, then joined the Oscar-winner, 73, on stage to hand over a £392,000 cheque to the charity Help Refugees.

RPatz’s bid to play the Dark Knight comes a decade after he was driven into hiding after playing vampire Edward Cullen in the Twilight trilogy.

At the time, he said of his rise to fame: ‘As soon as I signed on to do multiple sequels, I was like, “It’s gonna take ten years to get over this”.’

Rob’s model-turned-actress girlfriend Suki Waterhouse, 27, sat out a Cannes appearance with her leading fella.
